 Date of Stay: July, 2004
Last week we stayed at the Frederick Hotel in Edingurgh the location of the hotel was wonderful. we loved it!! We stayed in the Skyline Room (a two-level room often used in its advertisements.) The room was spacious, clean and offered an over the rooftops view of the Firth of Forth! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location of the hotel was ideal (not in the middle of the bustle of Princes Street, but not far from that focal point.) Compared with price, it values for the money. if book with this website you will get more bargain.

My wife and I reached very early in the morning from London so there wasnt any rooms available then. We were offered the baggage room to put our bags which we promptly accepted. Not bad for a start. When checking in, as we stated that we were on honeymoon, the staff gave us an upgrade to a bigger family room at the top of the hotel with a view facing the streets instead of one facing the back street. The room was big and spacious and I cannot fault anything about it, given we could have a decent view of the streets. The breakfast was fantastic, typical American style breakfast (you could have a few choices actually) at a cafe across the street, pity we couldn't enjoy it totally cos we had to leave early on both days. The location is fantastic, actually any of the hotels along the Princes and Geroges Street is easily accessible to all the major attractions. Fredrick House is just on one of the small streets off Geroges Street where Hard rock Cafe and the shops and cafes were. A 10-15 minutes walk to Edingburgh Castle, depending on how fast you can make your way up the extremely steep road (or you could take a long flight of steps). Alone the road adjacent to the castle is the famous Mile. In all, for the price we paid, this was a fantastic deal. However, we were wondering, if we hadnt been given an upgrade, would the room still have been as good? Well, couples intending to stay in this hotel and booking through this website should know what to do now....

I stayed at the Frederick House for one night before catching a flight in the Next morning, it was the right hotel in the right time. Despite pouring rain, it was not a far walk from Waverley Station, and I was so glad to see the hotel had a lift! Next morning, it was even closer to the airport bus stop. Its downtown location allowed for some quick sightseeing and easy access to good restaurants. My room (double) was clean and more spacious than I expected, came with an iron and ironing board, and the water pressure of the shower was great. The breakfast provided at a cafe across the street could have been served more promptly, but was quite good. I would consider this hotel for a longer stay in Edinburgh. The hotel was so simple fantastic.

This is the most central location possible for a visit to Edinburgh. Rooms are large and spacious (althugh a little more drawer space would have been useful) and the elevator is welcome. The breakfast selection at Rick's restaurant across the road is unusually large and satisfying, and we even had a pleasant dinner there one evening. When one considers how expensive the U.K. has become nowadays, this hotel can be considered good value. (Although I am a long-time resident of the U.S., I was born in Scotland and lived in Edinburgh for ten years.)

Location excellent for all Edinburgh sights and events. We had no hot water one afternoon but reception staff sorted it promptly. Breakfast at Ricks was great. In general our room (family) was looking a bit tired and a bit more time needed to be spent on cleaning the bathroom but we would stay there again.

There appeared to be no facilities for guests outwith the hotel room. No on site catering or bar. Breakfast was in a restaurant across the road from the hotel. None of this was a great problem given the hotel's central location in Edinburgh, but was unexpected to me as a first time guest.

It was a really good surprise to come to Fredderick House Hotel. The Staff and the location make the stay in Edinburgh much better even when Edinburgh are one of the best places in Europe to be an turist in. I want to stay here next time too.

12. From: Jacqueline Powell, United Kingdom
 Date of Stay: March, 2007
All the important things for me were there - hot powerful shower, iron and ironing board in the room, radiator with adjustable thermostat, excellent location for shopping and sightseeing and very helpful staff. The only downside was the view from the room. I would definitely go there again.

Fantastic location for anyone wanting to explore the centre of edinburgh- especially the shopping!!- and loads of restaurants in the surrounding areas. The hotel looks a little dated but is clean and the staff were always friendly. Breakfast at Ricks was very nice- a lovely upmarket restaurant. Couldn't have been better for what was a short stay shopping weekend for us tough perhaps wouldn;t suit people looking for a longer holiday,
