Description: The Macdonald Houstoun House is actually three houses in one: the towerhouse complemented by an elegant country manor and charming steading. This characterful combination ensures that most rooms boast wonderful views across the hotel`s gardens or beyond to the Ecclesmachan Hills. Built in the early 17th century by John Shairp, the old tower of Houstoun remained the Shairp family home for 350 years. Vaulted ceilings and open fires combine with traditional Scottish hospitality to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming but is still distinctly refined and discreet.

All 71 guest rooms are tastefully furnished and well equipped, coming as standard with full en suite facilities, satellite television, direct dial telephone, modem point, hairdryer, iron and board, trouser press, complimentary mineral water, working area with desk and a shoe shine service.

An extensive wine list, together with skilful presentation of dishes and fresh local produce, have made Houstoun one of the most outstanding restaurants in Scotland`s central belt.  One of the best if not the best hotel we have stayed in. The service was excellent and everyone was very nice. We were able to take our dog which made a huge difference to us. She was spoiled rotten. The dining room was lovely and the service was first class. We can't wait to come back

Beautiful hotel with excellent service-however booked a triple room-but no 3rd bed made up on arrival-after reporting to reception manager came within minutes. Closed curtains at night-one side fell down! Used shower in the morning-shower head fell off! Went down for breakfast only 2 people were on the list instead of 3 but no problems encountered.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome as a family. Pool was great for the kids. Plenty of space to wander around the immaculate hotel grounds or play golf at the club opposite. Would recommend this hotel to all age groups and will certainly be back! Although hotel is in a nice quiet location it is only a short distance to Livingston.

If you are looking for quiet and relaxing break this is definatley the one. The settings are lovely and with Golf course , Leisure Club and Spa treatments available it was excellent. Suggest that any beauty treatments are booked well in advance of your visit.

Enjoyable stay, somewhat marred by the extortionate bar prices, eg 4.55 for small 330ml bottle of mineral water. Dinner in the Tower restaurant was very good.
