The hotel has kept the original tiles in some of the rooms. They are green and it does feel that you are in a prison cell or public toilet. The reception area, bar and restuarant is very nice. The hotel is well situated for nightlife and shopping. Parking is cheap too.

I recently stayed at the Palace Hotel with my fiance to celebrate his birthday and have some fun in the casino. I booked the standard room over the internet for 110 pounds with breakfast included. Last time we were in Manchester we stayed in the Premier Travel Inn which in all honesty was of a better quality than the room we were given at the Palace hotel. The coridoors were old and shabby looking and the paint on all the doords was peeling. The cleanliness of the room and lobby was good. There was little storage in the room and some of the handles were broken. Bedside tables and drawers were of a cheap quality. I think the newer, renovated rooms are probably better but I would not class the room we had as upper 4 star as advertised in the hotel brochure. The Breakfast had plenty of choice available but at sixteen pounds per head I would expect waiter service.

Atmosheric hotel in beautiful building. Lots of character & 'olde world' charm. Roomy bar & restaurant...easy to relax. 'Quirky' rooms, which I love, (mostly spacious in my experience). Excellent location in the centre of Manchester adjacent train station for convenient airport transfer. A Mini-bar in the room would be a plus. If it was slightly cheaper I would think it was the best value around but can't complain really as I love staying there!

Myself and my family had a very pleasant stay in general, breakfast service was very slow getting tea and coffee not enough staff tea and coffee very cold we were advised they could not leave a tea or coffee pot as they did not have enough?, also lots of dirty dishes left in the hall way and window ledges from other guests having room service food, one try of dirty plates and glasses on on the same window ledge through out our stay(Friday to Sunday), the hotel istself has not been totally refurbished some homes are still in the old style but are very spacious and comfortable. Drinks at the hotel bar very expensive and most of the drinks we asked for had run out not good for such a big hotel.

The hotel was very good, the breakfast excellent. Our only bugbear was that the cleaners were knocking on the door to clean our room at 9am - we hadn't even had breakfast at that point, let alone packed our things. I'm not sure what time the departure time is, but 9am seems very early!

it was not as good as i thought it would be, they were slow clearing tables at breakfast so i did not have time to eat, they advertised films which they did not show and the staff were unhelpful.

Unfortunately the renovation seems to rely on the first impression of the lobby to do the job. The rooms are simply not up to standard and though very large are very tired in appearance with more wear and tear than one would expect at this level. One has the feeling of a former grand establishement which the owners can't afford to maintain adequately. A disappointment.

Really interesting building and the renovations are tastefully done to complement the old with the new and service was always polite and cordial. Would go back there again if visiting Manchester as very good for train services to local area with station not far away.

Reservation was wrong when I arrived despite booking a family room the receptionist tried to give me a room with two single beds! They did rectify it however the room we were given had no functional heating and blew only cold air. The room was large and beautifully decorated howeverideal for the city centre.

I was very pleased with my stay here. Staff were courteous, the facilities clean, and the surroundings pleasant. The hotel is very convenient to the railway station at Oxford Road. Would definitely stay here again when in Manchester.

The hotel was easy to find and was in a good central location. I was impressed with the reception area and bar but was left a bit disappointed with the room itself. The room was generally quite clean but wasnt what I expected for a 4 star hotel. The room was a bit small and windows and the area around them were damp.

Sumptuous, original decor - loved the enamel tiles everywhere! Extremely spacious room with the most comfortable bed we've slept on in a long time. Good central location - we walked everywhere. Very relaxed dining and bar. Thoroughly recommend it.

The Hotel decor was very impressive, and the room was decorated to a very high standard with an extremely comfy bed, however due to location noise from the street could disturb light sleepers. The breakfast was disappointing - would have expected better choice of cooked breakfast, for example fish or kippers and freshly prepared ground coffee. The service was also disappointing in that we were moved three times due to wrong table settings.

I read the conflicting reviews before I booked and can now understand the reason. it is a splendid building and I like the mix of contemporary and period features. However, it was a strange place to stay. Some of the staff were so friendly others not so. The place is vast and my friend and I kept getting lost and didn't find the staff we asked when trying to find our way around v.helpful! When our key cards didn't work on the second night it took a hell of a long time to get back to the reception. The phone on the landing wasn't answered. Strange smell in the corridors and rather scary if wandering along them alone late at night.
