Although the rooms were a little on the shabby side and varied hugely in size, the public areas such as the bar and restaurant were much smarter. The staff were most friendly and accomodating. Overall this hotel proves excellent value for money in such a location. No car park, which is to expected in Princes Street. However, they do provide a 20% discount voucher for a nearby multi storey.

Would not recommend this hotel for longer than one night. The location was perfect but the hotel is old and rooms were very small. It was a nice place to stay one night but any longer I would not recommend. There was nothing exceptional about it, just a place to sleep. Definitely needs updating in rooms/baths as they did in reception. However, it was very close to where we went and train station is across the street...just beware of the steps you have to climb up and down to get into station.

The rooms were old but it was right in the mix of things in relation to town. It was a perfect hotel to stay at for Hogmanay! Just at the edge of the checkpoint. I would like the hotel to have mentioned that we would be receiving wristguards for the celebration prior to us coming. We had purchased our wristbands through another service so that meant we spent more money that we should have. At least it should be mentioned on the website when you book during the time of Hogmanay.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel, despite the superb location. It is definitely overpriced. For the 85 quid per night, we got a smallish room which smelled like the sheets needed cleaning a long time ago with a bit of shabby (though large) bathroom with yellowish water coming out of the tap. I am all for old-style rooms, but this was taking it a little too far. Breakfast was alright, but we had to wait some ridiculous amounts of time to get our cooked stuff - and the waiters were generally confused (mixing tables/orders, not knowing their way around - may be students first week on a summer job or something). The rooms and breakfast hall appeared much larger and tidier on the pictures than in real life, so beware of that. Also, our parents, who stayed in the room right next to ours, had a bathroom which was about one-third the size of ours... bizarre. The staff was generally quite friendly, though, and nothing could spoil the great time we had in Edinburgh. All I'm saying, for 85 quid we should be able to do a lot better.

I found the Royal British Hotel excellent in terms of being so central to everything. My friend and I had no problems whatsoever with the hotel. The rooms were warm, plenty of hot water for a bath or shower and the food was lovely. In fact, we plan to return to this hotel later in the year again. Regards, Pauline

The staff were very welcoming, especially the reception and bar staff, I felt the breakfasting staff could have been a bit friendlier though. The rooms were basic but clean and were what I expected for the price. The location was excellent, overall I really enjoyed my stay and would come again.

Rooms are past their best, but location is excellent and staff are friendly. Nice view of the castle from the bar. Good value for money. (Nearest car park is quite a distance and tricky to find).
