Excellent, pleasant and just right to relax after ferry trip.

We stayed here for 8 days in July 2006. The hotel was lovely, right on the front, breakfasts were good, staff friendly and efficient. The entertainment every evening in the piano bar was very pleasant and my husband enjoyed the indoor pool. On the down side, the rooms were a bit on the small side, not much drawer space and only a few coat hangers, so take some with you! Quite expensive, but far superior to most of the other hotels in Douglas we looked at.

This hotel needs a a complete makeover, it is old fashioned and dowdy. It would help if the bar staff could speak good English. Not worth the money we paid.

I stayed at the Empress Hotel last year and they seem to have upgraded the rooms. The superior rooms(3) which we had were very spacious with sea views, although the fourth floor room was not as large as those on the first and second floors. There was plenty of hot water, housekeeping was very good and the towels were thick and replaced each day. Buffet breakfast was slightly disappointing but you could order kipper fillets freshly done which pleased the males in the party. Reception staff were very helpful in ordering taxis and Gopi who worked in the bar helped carry cases to the car in really awful squally weather when we left and deserves a special mention. We didn't use the pool but it was good to know it had the facilities. They had just installed a combined internet,TV,radio facility in the rooms and it was the first day of operation so there were some teething troubles but that will probably get sorted out. All in all it is a good hotel and good value for money.
