its ok for the money for a very short stay

The room we stayed in had a bathroom with floor tiles that were smashed and were not grouted as well as a hole in the ceiling plugged with toilet paper. The main room was tired but acceptable apart from a window that appeared to have a broken seal and had clouded up so much it was hard to see outside. For this reason I thought ?44 including breakfast was not good value for money.

Portland Hotel, I found to be very good and the staff exceeded my expectations. I wish to emphasis that the girl who was on Reception was excellent and deserves to be complimented for her excellent care, customer service and attention to detail. The breakfast was superbly laid out and was fresh and very tasty. Staff were very pleasant and this hotel has alot going for it, staffwise.

As per previous stays, I enjoyed my time @ the Portland and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Very thin walls, could hear another room's TV until 3 am. Shower was very weak and water not hot enough despite taking the Hotel's advice of "running the water for a few minutes " Cooked breakfast was very good served by attentive pleasant staff. Reception staff very helpful and polite.

Only bad point was all the boilers in all the rooms seemed to be running at the same time so it woke us up really early.

7. From: ME de Lange

This hotel is good value for your money; our room (twin) was quite spacious for its price, bathroom small but sufficient. Only down side is the noise: loud(er) neighbours are easely a wake up call; the walls are not sound proof. But again, for this money, one cannot expect everything.

All in all a mediocre hotel however for the price you cannot complain. If we'd paid any more than 40 we would of complained about the state of the room but all in all not bad for the money. It is in an ideal location only a few miles out from the centre of Birmingham.

9. From: J Bernardes
 Date of Stay: March, 2007
When we arrived we were given a room that had clearly not been cleaned by the maid, the bed had been slept in and there was empty drinks bottles on the side. not a great start! I got the impression the reception staff thought i was being particualy fusy about my room but moved us into a suite. It was a slightly larger room and was very clean, The hotel is in need of modernisation. Downstairs smelt a bit musky and it has a 1970's feel with all the mahogany wood around. I didnt like the hotel.

Given the cost you really can't complain about this hotel. 3 stars seems pushing it a bit - maybe a few years ago before it got rather tired. However, the rooms are adequate and the breakfast is good - full english and they even have marmite and yoghurt

Either the comments from other guests have been taken on board or they have had a major re-vsamp, Hotel was clean friendly, great customer service, and eat as much as you can breakfast and all for 25 FANTASTIC

The hotel is good value if you want a bed for the night and you are on a night out in B'ham but that is all you should expect as the hotel has seen better days. The room was ok but stains on carpet / wallpaper do point to a slight lack in cleanliness.

Easy to find - within easy reach of city centre. Choice of menu is well varied and food is good.
